This article explains how the security procedure that is enabled by default on your Coinhouse account works: the email validation.
The email validation, an enhanced protection of your account
When you create your Coinhouse account, we ask you for an email address that allows us to stay in touch with you.
But your email address will also be used to provide additional security during certain important operations on your account. Important transactions include: adding an address from a cryptocurrency portfolio, adding a bank account or changing a phone number.
Email validation ensures that you are at the origin of these actions and that you are not being hacked by another person. In the ''My profile'' section, you can see that the email verification is enabled by default ant that you can choose to add additional security by activating the Two-factor athentication :
Example of how email validation works
Here is how the email validation procedure works, step by step. Let's take the example of adding a cryptocurrency portfolio address. (but this procedure is similar for adding a bank account or changing a phone number)
Go to the ''My Profile'' section on the left menu. If you add a portfolio address for the first time, you will arrive on the page below. All you have to do is to click on the button ''Link a new address'':
If you already have one or more portfolio addresses but want to add another, then you arrive on the page presenting your portfolios. Just click on the button''Link a new address'' located under the existing addresses:
In the window that opens, follow the steps and click on the button''Confirm a new address'':
This is where the email validation step comes in. An email is sent to the address you entered when you created your account.
The window that opens informs you about the receipt of this email and asks you to enter a verification code:
Open your mailbox and look for an email sent by Coinhouse in your inbox. If you can't find the email, check if it hasn't arrived in your spam. Here is an example of an email below:
Carefully copy the unique 6-digit verification code and enter it in the field in the ''email validation'' window on the Coinhouse platform, then click on the ''Confirm'' button.
That's it! You are able to add a new cryptocurrency portfolio address using email validation. Please note that the verification code is only valid for 15 minutes after sending the email. After this time, it will be necessary to restart the operation on the platform.
If you receive such an email and are sure that you are not initiating a transaction on your Coinhouse account, you can block your account to protect it by clicking on the location indicated in the email.
If you want even more protection to validate these transactions on your Coinhouse account, we recommend that you activate the other security procedure offered by Coinhouse: the Two-factor authentication (2FA).
