What is Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)?

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a security measure that requires the use of two authentication factors from three possible categories:

  • Something you know: such as a PIN code or a password.
  • Something you have: such as a smartphone or a card.
  • Something that is unique to you: such as a fingerprint or facial scan.

This method reduces fraud and strengthens the security of online payments.

Why is the Coinhouse app becoming mandatory?

Previously, Coinhouse offered two-factor authentication, where the user received a code via SMS or email to validate the transaction. Two-factor authentication no longer provides adequate protection, as it has security flaws (SIM swapping, phishing, etc.).

While using Coinhouse on your computer remains possible, the Coinhouse app is becoming mandatory to comply with PSD2 regulations and protect your transactions and personal data. Your smartphone will act as one of the required authentication factors (possession).

SCA helps prevent fraud by ensuring that only the account holder can approve sensitive transactions.

What types of transactions require strong authentication?

The following transactions require strong authentication:

  • Logging in to your Coinhouse account
  • Adding a beneficiary to your euro account
  • Initiating a transfer from your euro account
  • Unpairing a phone
  • Sending crypto (crypto withdrawal to another wallet address)
  • Changing your password
  • Changing your phone number
  • Deleting a bank account

How can I download the Coinhouse app?
  1. You can download the Coinhouse app from the App Store for iOS or from the Google Play Store for Android.
  2. Search for "Coinhouse".
  3. Follow the installation instructions

How do I link my smartphone to my Coinhouse account?
  1. Download the Coinhouse app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and log in to your account.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to link your smartphone, create a secure PIN code, and set up facial recognition or fingerprints.

How do I activate facial recognition or fingerprints on my smartphone?

iOS: Settings Face ID & Code or Touch ID & Code Set up.

Android: Settings Security Biometrics Set up.

Once facial recognition or fingerprints are activated on your smartphone, log back into the Coinhouse app.

Activating biometrics allows you to avoid entering your PIN for every sensitive transaction.

  1. Can I set up strong authentication on multiple devices?

    By default, an account can only be managed by a single phone. A phone can only manage one account. If you have both a personal and a professional account with Coinhouse, you can, however, choose to link them to the same phone.

    To do this:

  2. I don’t have a smartphone to link

    Linking your phone to your account is a mandatory step. As a financial institution, we must comply with European standards, and this process is essential to ensure our security compliance.

    Using a smartphone has become essential for many daily activities and is now necessary to secure your Coinhouse account. If you need assistance, please contact our customer support.

    NB

    The phone will be necessary to validate your login and sensitive transactions on your account, but navigation on Coinhouse remains possible from your computer.

  3. I have a business account. Do I need to enable strong authentication?

    Protecting your account is necessary, whether it is personal or professional. Whenever you want to log in or perform sensitive operations listed above, your PIN will be required. 

  4. Can I link a different phone to my business account?

    You can link your personal and business accounts to two different phones. If you want to link them to the same phone

  5. What should I do if I haven't received the confirmation notification on my smartphone?

    Launch your Coinhouse app on your phone to confirm the transaction. Make sure your smartphone is connected to the internet and that notifications for the Coinhouse app are enabled.

    Android: Settings Notifications Coinhouse Toggle on the activation button.

  6. What should I do if I lose my smartphone?

    If you have lost your smartphone, we can unlink your old device from your Coinhouse account:
